Day 7 - October 4th (Day 3 of 65)

After all the wet weather on the weekend, we went by this afternoon to see what the builders have been up to.

It looks like they were off today, as nothing more has been done to the site. The excavator has been removed and the "waffle pods" have arrived onsite (something like an iPod, but much larger and and it never stops going on and on and on..... :-> ).

The waffle pads are essentially large pieces of foam that sit in between and under the concrete, and are designed so not as much concrete is used. This also allows the builder a more accurate specification of the concrete quantity and reduces the waste. Looks to me like a buoyancy jacket for the slab!

The pictures below also show the black plastic sheeting they will be using rolled up to the right of the first picture.

To give you an idea of just how much foam there is here, have a look at this photo. It stands about 2 meters tall! I just hope that the neighbours don't mind all the stuff sitting on their land?

In the next photo, you can see the steel reinforcement sitting on the other side of the block and  waffle pads in the distance.

The last thing I saw today was a pile of concrete rubble (?) that seems to have been left by someone that visited today... I hope they clean this up as it is not on our property....
