Day 141 - February 15th (Day 62 of 65)

Tuesday has come and gone and we can't wait until Friday for handover! Went past the house today. There hasn't been anyone onsite again. I suspect that our site supervisor will have all hands on deck on Friday. Took some photos of the back area of the house...I slashed the grass here on the weekend...

One of the things I was going to do was install the fence myself. I am wondering if I should build a small retaining wall or just add some sleepers to the bottom of the fence like I had planned? It's not much of a drop, and a little bit a of a slope is probably a good thing for run off....

  1. Is there much work to be repaired before handover. I know there's appliances, but anything major that you're concerned about?

  2. No.. Just some paint touch ups. I am getting the Serial numbers of the equipment they install on handover day. I suppose we will find other things later as with all builds.

  3. Hi Robert

Congrads on you new house. I have spend the whole day reading your build diary. I was very helpful and paints a picture of what is ahead for our house that should commence on the 25th of Feb. Hope we have the same luck as u and have our house built without hiccups.

Great job with your detail blog!!!

  4. Hi Sam,

Thanks. I sort of used the blog as a "transcript" so I could go back if I ever need to to see how something was done. One thing I noticed when I started was all these other fantastic blogs that have been laid out in a similar manner.

I think it's a great idea to record your home building process. I plan on using some of the photos when we invite all our friends over!

Where is your Blog? If you start one, I'd love to read it.

  5. I might start a blog too for our house. I think Metricon secretly reads the blog themselve to make sure they are positive so they can use it as good market tool. :D

Great Idea on using blog as transcript too. Expecially when u have all the photo if thing goes wrong or if u decide to renovate/repair 10 years later and need to find pips and wires behind the wall. You will still have everything there.

BTW, what was ur guarentee built time?

  6. We modified the home from the plans...only slightly, but any modification throws away your guaranteed build time. I think it would need to be negotitated.

In the contract it says 180 days. These are working days, so does not include the Christmas holidays. The workers get 55 days where they can do nothing, and another 10 days for inclement weather. My record (above listed as (day 62 of 65) is a little out, and the calender has a better record. I will update this again soon.

  7. Hi Robert

We have also made modification to our house design. Metricon wanted 29 weeks to build our so I wrote a formal complaint letter to my CSC and manage to get it down to 24weeks. It is still 4 weeks over the 20 weeks guarentee Metricon have publish everywhere. I did not do much addition to house and also took out the tile downstairs so I'm still a bit unhappy about the 24 weeks.

I have started my blog too.
